Abstract
305,759. Dorman & Co., Ltd., W. H., and Phillips, A. E. Dec. 12, 1927. Reversing-gearing of the kind in which a planet-carrier 6 is clutched solid for forward driving and held by a brake for reversal comprises a clutch 13 and brake 15 operated through the same lever 22 from a control lever 20. The carrier 6 supports pairs of spur gears 4, 5 or single bevel gears meshing with gears 2, 3 on driving and driven shafts 8, 9, respectively. Clutch 13 connects carrier 6 to flywheel 7. Brake 15 makes connection with fixed frame 12. Rods 6e, 6h for operating the clutch and brake are connected to the lever 22 on opposite sides of its fulcrum 6<c>. A sliding sleeve 26 connects the levers 22, 20. In a modification, the clutch and brake common controlling-lever is of the elbow type. The invention is applicable for road and rail vehicles and boats.
