Abstract

476,729. Driving-gear for pumps. JUNKERS FLUGZEUGUND MOTORENWERKE AKT.-GES. June 10, 1937, No. 16139. Convention date, June 15, 1936. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A machine C such as the scavenging or charging blower of an internalcombustion engine is driven by an exhaust turbine B which may be intermittently inoperative, and by a second prime mover A which may be an electric motor. The connection comprises an epicyclic gear 3, 4, 5 and a free-wheel clutch 11 so arranged that the turbine B, while it is inoperative, is carried round in its normal direction of rotation and is ready to take up load. Several modifications of the arrangement of the prime movers and gearing are described. Fig. 9 shows an arrangement in which the exhaust from the reciprocating engine M is led to an exhaust turbine B\ this turbine and the engine shaft 65 being both arranged to drive the blower C1 through differential gearing and a free-wheel clutch.
