Abstract
300,036. Richardsons, Westgarth, & Co., Ltd., and Burn, W. S. Dec. 19, 1927. Turning-gear. - One or more pairs of double-acting air pumps are driven at a speed which is a multiple of the speed of the engine crank-shaft. As shown for a four-cylinder engine, one pair of pumps is used, the crank shaft 5 driving the pistons 9 being driven through speed-multiplying tooth gear 22, 23 from the main shaft 21. A toothed wheel is mounted on the end of the pump shaft 5 and acts as a fly-wheel for the pump; the engine starter engages the periphery of this wheel and transmits its turning action through the wheels 23, 22.
