Abstract
556,401. Plant; pumps. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. March 30, 1942, No. 4196. Convention date, April 28, 1941. [Class 7 (ii)] In an engine plant comprising two opposedpiston engines 1, 2 having crank shafts fitted with pinions 6 driving the main shaft 8 through a central gear wheel 7, the engines are supplied with air by a rotary blower 9 which is arranged between the two engines and is driven from the wheel 7 through gearing 18, 19, 20. The blower is also coupled to an exhaust turbine, which acts to assist the engine drive when the output developed by the turbine is greater than that required by the blower. A flexible coupling or shaft, and, if desired, also a slip coupling, may be provided between the wheel 7 and the blower.
