Abstract
720,201. Gas turbine plant. FIAT SOC. PER AZIONI. March 13, 1952 [March 16, 1951], No. 6574/52. Class 110(3). In a gas turbine unit for a motor vehicle comprising a first turbine 8 connected to a compressor 4 through a hollow shaft 10, a second turbine 9 situated on the opposite side of the first turbine to the compressor and secured on a second shaft 11 extending through the hollow shaft and driving a reduction gearing 14, 15, 16, one stage at least of which is situated on the opposite side of the compressor to the turbines and wherein the turbine and compression rotors together with their shafts, the reduction gearing and the combustion chambers 2 of the plant are enclosed in casings secured together to form a common rigid casing 1, one portion 21 of said rigid casing houses the differential gear 20 which is directly coupled to the reduction gearing driven by the second turbine. A second axle may be driven through gearing 16, 22, 23, 34. The compressor may have a double impeller or a single impeller which is arranged as shown or disposed, together with its inlet manifold, facing the turbine unit. Again, the compressor may comprise an axialflow compressor followed, if desired, by a centrifugal compressor.
