Abstract
199,490. Carter, B. C. March 28, 1922. Motor power plant.-In an internal-combustion engine comprising two lines of cylinders each with a separate crankshaft, the two crankshafts are connected by means of a link plate and parallel cranks to a propeller or driven shaft and the crank shafts themselves are arranged as a divided crank shaft of a single line engine having the same number of cylinders with the second portion of the shaft moved laterally and axially. The crankshafts 13, 14 are connected by a link plate 18 with a driven shaft 16 which drives a countershaft 26 for driving fuel oil and water pumps, &c. Cranks 1, 2, 3, on crank shaft 13 are respectively parallel with cranks 6, 5, 4 on crank shaft 14. The link plate 18 may be arranged at an intermediate position instead of at the end.
