504,393. Driving cam shafts and auxiliaries. STUBINGS, A. J. Oct. 27, 1937, No. 29339. [Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii), and 7 (vi)] A driving-unit for the valve gear and auxiliary devices, such as fuel-injection pumps, magnetos, dynamos, and oil or water pumps, comprises a housing attached to the end of the crank case and fitted with bearings for the gears which are splined to, but free to slide axially on, the crank shaft, cam shaft, and the shafts driving the auxiliary devices. Figs. 2 and 3 show an engine crank shaft 1 arranged to drive a cam shaft 3, fuel pump shafts 4, 5, and an oil pump shaft 6 by means of gear wheels 1a, 3a, 4a, 5a, 6a, which are mounted in bearings 1b, 3b, 4b, 5b, 6b carried by a housing 8. This housing is split on the transverse plane 8a to allow the wheels to be mounted in their bearings, and the whole may be enclosed by a cover 10. The gear wheels have splined connections to their shafts. The fuel pump shafts are formed.,with couplings 4f for driving a pair of pumps carried by the cover 10, and the oil pump 9 may also be attached to the cover as shown. The housing and gear wheels are detachable as a complete unit. The gears 1a, 3a, 4a, 5a are arranged as an endless gear train.
