Dynamos, arrangement of.-In engines having the cam shaft at the side, a cross shaft connected by worm gearing to the crank shaft and cam shaft also directly drives an accessory, such as a dynamo. Fig. 1 shows a shaft 3 transmitting the driven from the crank shaft 2 to the cam shaft 4 by worm gearing 5, 6 and 15, 16, and coupled directly to the dynamo 7 or magneto; or the magneto 8 may be driven by a shaft 9 gearing with the opposite side of the wheel 16. The magneto and dynamo are carried by brackets 10, 11 extending from covers 110, 111. In a modification, the shaft 3 extends horizontally across the engine between the crank and cam shafts, and may drive at one end the dynamo and at the other end the magneto. In a further arrangement, the shaft 3 is arranged verticallv with the dynamo or magneto at its upper end. Lastly, a single gear 6 on the shaft 3 may engage the gears 5 and 16 on the crank and cam shafts, arother gear at the opposite side of the wheel 16 driving another shaft parallel to the shaft 3. The shafts 3 and 9, coupled to the dynamo 7 and magneto 8 respectively, are arranged in casings 30 and 90 attached to, or integral with, the upper part of the crank case 12. Each casing may be divided in the plane of its shaft for case in dismantling.
