Abstract
279,194. Aspden, R. L., and Aspden Flywheel Dynamotor Syndicate. Ltd. Aug. 10, 1926. Turning-gear.-In an electric starter for internal-combustion engines, in which the electric motor is provided with a flywheel and can be rotated at high speed before being connected to the engine, an independently rotatable dynamo and motor are coaxially mounted with a clutch or the like for connecting them together, the dynamo being continuously driven from the engine. As shown, a motor armature 15 and a dynamo armature 16 are coaxially mounted on separate shafts 17, 18 in a single casing 19, and the shaft 18 is connected by chain gearing 20 to the engine shaft. The motor shaft 17 is slidable to enable a flywheel 22 mounted thereon to be brought into engagement with a cone clutch 21 on the shaft 18, the parts 21, 22 being normally held apart by a spring 23. The current to the motor may be automatically interrupted when the motor is actually turning the engine.
