Turning - gear. - In a starter for internal - combustion engines, two freewheel mechanisms are provided, one of which allows the engine shaft to overrun the starter while the other prevents backward rotation of the engine and the starter. In one form, Fig. 1, the shaft g of the starting-motor has a free-wheel connection l with the casing wand carries a pinion f gearing with a wheel h connected to the engine shaft a by a free-wheel clutch k. In a modification, the free-wheel connection l is replaced by one between the engine shaft and a member fixed to the bearing. If the construction if sufficiently strong, backward movement of the vehicle is also prevented when the main clutch is in engagement.
