Abstract
326,382. MacBlane, J. April 13, 1929. Turning-gear.-An electric starter for internalcombustion engines comprises a pinion F mounted loosely on a sleeve A secured on the shaft of the starting motor and movable axially to bing the pinion into engagement with an engine gear or with teeth on the engine flywheel, the axial movement being effected by the centrifugal action of weighted arms B<1> pivoted to a collar C on the sleeve and bearing against a cone E sliding freely on the sleeve. The axial movement of the pinion brings undercut clutch teeth F<1> on the pinion into engagement with corresponding teeth G on the sleeve A, and the pinion is automatically disengaged from the engine flywheel by the clutch teeth when the engine starts.
