Abstract
252,274. Horstmann, S. A., and Rooke. J. W. Feb. 25, 1925. Turning-gear.-In a starting-device for internal-combustion engines, a dog clutch member 15 driven from an electric motor engages a dog clutch member 18 formed on a floating element 10, the inclined faces of the members 15, 18 moving the element 19 .axially into engagement with a clutch member 20 on the engine shaft 12. As shown, the members 19, 20 form a cone clutch and the clutch member 15 is mounted on a freely mounted worm wheel 10 in engagement with a worm 4 on the shaft 3 of the starting motor, the worm being movable axially against a spring in case the engine turns backwards while the clutch 19, 20 is in engagement. In place of the worm gearing, spur gears may be employed. Specification 203,787 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
