Turning-gear.-A starting-handle shaft is divided into two parts a, b connected through gear-wheels e, g, h, f so that the handle part b drives the part a at an increased speed, the gearwheels being arranged to slide with the shaft when the latter is pushed into engagement with the engine shaft. In the form shown, the wheels g, h are bolted together and slide on a fixed shaft i, but they may be fixed on a slidable shaft. The part b is loosely supported within the wheel e.
