Abstract
480,576. Turning-gear. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and NAPIER, C. S. July 17, 1937, No. 19849. [Class 7 (v)] In an engine starter of the type described in Specification 417,128, comprising a flywheel 1 rotated by the armature 4 of an electric motor and connected through a gear train (not shown) to a starter claw 2, the claw 2 is moved axially into engagement with a counterpart 3 on the engine shaft by a solenoid 8 in parallel with the motor terminals or with the field windings 10 or both. The claw 2 is held out of engagement by a spring 11 until the voltage across the solenoid rises to a sufficient value to effect engagement.
