Turning-gear.-In an electric starter in which a pinion rotated by a motor armature is brought into engagement with a gear wheel on the engine by electro-magnetic means, the electro-magnet has a low-resistance winding which is in parallel with the armature and can be cut out by a switch after starting is effected. The electro-magnetic, device may be arranged as described in Specifications 118,050, 118,220, and 118,775, and the motor may be'series or shunt wound.
