Turning-gear.-In an elctric starter comprising a pinion p on the shaft of an axially movable armature a, the pinion is magnetically insulated from the armature or consists of non-magnetic or weakly magnetic material such as bronze or chrome nickel steel, in order to prevent the meshing with the fly-wheel from being interfered with by magnetic action. In the form shown, the pinion p is keyed on a stub shaft e of bronze, lignum vitµ, or the like, having a squared end s secured in a socket in the end of the armature shaft.
