Starting prime-movers, dynamo-electric machines with control circuits for.-In electric turning-gear in which the armature shaft moves axially to connect it to the engine fly-wheel, the field magnets have a thin and thick wire winding. During the coupling movement, the thin wire winding is placed in series with the armature ; during this period the thick wire winding may be disconnected or also in series with the armature. After the coupling is effected the thick wire winding is in series with the armature and the thin wire winding may be disconnected or arranged in parallel with the other winding or in shunt to the armature. The two windings may act differentially.
