Abstract

Boosting; starting prime-movers, dynamo-electric machines with control circuits for.-In an electric starting system in which the dynamo has armature and field windings f, l of few turns and windings f<1>, p of many turns, both armature windings f, f<1> are in use when the dynamo is run as a starting-motor. At starting, the switch i is moved into the position shown in broken lines, connecting the battery e and motor winding f in series with the field winding l. Current generated in the winding f<1> passes through a conductor m and through a resistance n to the field winding p. When generating, the switch i is moved to the position shown in full line, cutting out the field winding l and the resistance n. A switch t may be opened automatically or by hand when the engine is not running, and a regulating coil r may be provided on the field poles. The dynamo may be connected to the engine by frictional or epicyclic change-speed gear.
