Abstract

186,318. Bosch Akt.-Ges., R. Sept. 19, 1921, [Convention date]. Starting prime-movers, dynamo-electric machines and control circuits for.- An electric starter comprises a dynamomachine having t w o armature windings, a shunt field winding, a series field winding, and switching - means f o r causing the machine to run as a compound motor with one armature in circuit and as a shunt dynamo with both armatures in series. The dynamo-electric machine is provided with an armature winding A cf large section and small number of windings, an armature winding d of small section and large number of turns, a series field winding H and a shunt field winding N. When the starting-switch F is closed, the switch S is operated to connect the battery B to the windings A, H in series through the contacts a, b, to close the shunt winding N through the ccntact e and to break the circuit of the armature winding D at the contact d. When the engine is started the switch F is opened and the armature windings A, D are connected in series through the contact d, the circuit of the series field winding H is broken at the contact b, the machine running as a generator to charge the battery.
