Abstract

195,579. Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach Zweigniederlassung der Gothaer Waggonfabrik Akt. - Ges. Gotha. March 31, 1922, [Convention date]. Magneto-electric machines.-A magneto for the ignition cf internal-combustion engines and for lighting purposes on motor vehicles is provided with a large number of permanent magnets 3 so that, even at low speeds, a sufficient voltage is, impressed on a transformer 48 directly placed in the armature circuit to provide ignition through the distributor 36. The transformer has two primary windings and the coils of the armature 12 are in two sections connected to the primary windings at the terminals 16, 17 by the leads 13, 15 and thence to switch contacts 22, 23. Each section of the armature is thus connected in series with one primary winding and one of the lamps 29, 30, the lead 14 serving as an equalizing lead. In a modification, the lamps 29, 30 may be arranged in parallel with the primary windings of the transformer 48. By rotating the switch 24 through 90‹, the primary coils of the transformer are placed in series across the armature. A number of earthed lamp circuits may be provided having tappings from the stator winding 12 with a return and balancing lead also connected directly to this winding. A rectifier 42 may be connected to the terminals 16, 17 to charge an accumulator 43 which supplies lighting current to lamps 46, 47 when the engine is stationary.
