431,678. Starting prime movers. ECLIPSE MACHINE CO., Elmira, New York, U.S.A. Oct. 9, 1933, No. 27762. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1932. [Class 38 (iv)] In an internal-combustion engine starting system in which the starter motor switch 4 is operated electromagnetically and is automatically opened when the engine becomes self-operative, means, e.g. a resistance 13, are provided whereby the energization of the electromagnetic switch may be limited to a holding value. The circuit of the winding 7 operating the starter circuit switch 4 is closed through a resistance 13 which may be short circuited manually or by a diaphragm switch 16 sensitive to engine suction which is provided with a time delay in the form of a screw 25 in the connection 24 to the engine manifold. The resistance 13 is of such value as to allow the coil 7 to hold the switch 4 closed but not to operate. it when it is open. The switch member 4 may also operate the starter pinion to engage the engine fly-wheel. The connection of the winding 7 to the battery is completed through the engine driven generator G so that when the engine becomes self operative the coil 7 is de-energized. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 396,076.
