Abstract
243,355. Soc. Anon. pour l'Equipement Electrique des Vehicules. Nov. 18, 1924, [Convention date]. Turning-gear.-An electric starter is provided with means for starting by hand comprising a shaft 1 slidingly counected by keys 49 to the hollow armature shaft 30 of the starting motor, which does not move axially. The shaft 1 has pinion teeth 4 forming part of the transmission from the motor to the engine shaft 2, and also clutch teeth 19 brought by axial movement into engagement with teeth 18 on the engine shaft. A pin 34 in the shaft 1 is engaged by a starting- handle, and the shaft is normally held in the position shown by a spring 20. The planetary transmission gear between the shafts 1, 2 is described in Specification 239,809 and enables the motor to rotate the engine at a reduced speed when starting and afterwards to be driven as a generator at engine speed. Specification 237,541 also is referred to.
