Abstract
402,281. Turning-gear. PULVIS AKT.- GES., Glarus, Switzerland. Feb. 14, 1933, No. 4514. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1932. [Class 7 (v).] In an electric starter for mobile or stationary engines, the starter pinion 6 is driven from the electric motor 1 through a slipping coupling comprising a driving wing wheel 4 and a surrounding drum 5 partly filled with a powdered mass, as described in Specification 370,465, [Group XXIV]. As shown, the drum 5 is integral with or fixed to the pinion 6, which may be constantly in mesh with an engine gear 7 or movable axially into mesh. In modifications, the drum 5 is mounted on a threaded or splined shaft on which the pinion is movable axially into mesh with the engine gear.
