Abstract

507,106. Valve gear. TRIUMPH ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and TURNER, E. Feb. 24,.1938, No: 5834. [Class 7 (vi)] A chain drive for the cam-shaft and an auxiliary of a four-stroke engine, particularly for motor cycles, is arranged so that, for the normal direction of crank-shaft rotation, the main load on the chain is taken by the camshaft and not by the shaft of the auxiliary. The cam-shaft 1 is arranged above the crankshaft 2, which drives the chain 9 through a pinion 6 and internal teeth on a sprocket 5, the chain passing around sprockets 7 and 8 on the cam-shaft and auxiliary respectively. A tightening-device 10 may be provided on the longest run of the chain. For a multicylinder engine, the cam-shaft may be arranged at 1a, as shown in dotted lines.
