Abstract

770,826. Valve gear; lubricating. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. June 14, 1955 [June 14, 1954], No. 17097/55. Classes 7 (2) and 7 (6). [Also in Group XXIV] The driving sprocket 1 of a chain drive 3 for a cam-shaft 2 is mounted on a shaft 4 parallel to and driven from the driving shaft 7, e.g. the crank-shaft, on a lever 9 pivoted on the shaft 7, the plane through the axes of the sprockets 1, 2, forming an angle which is preferably a right angle with the plane through the axes of the shafts 4, 7. The shaft 4 is driven from the crank-shaft 7 at a 2:1 reduction through gears 6, 5, for which the lever 9 forms a housing, the driving torque of the gears 6, 5, being arranged to urge the lever 9 in the chain-tensioning direction. A projection 19 on the lever 9 is engaged by a resilient stop 22 preventing movement thereof in a direction to slacken the chain. The stop 22 may be withdrawn by a pull-knob 24 to permit the lever 9 to be swung upwards to remove the chain 3. The gears 5, 6, constitute a lubricating oil pump having an inlet 10 and outlet 11.
