438,994. Valve gear. BURT, P., Hollybank, Silverwells Crescent, Bothwell, Lanarkshire. Nov. 2, 1934, No. 31466. [Class 7 (vi)] Valve gear for a sleeve valve having combined reciprocating and oscillating motion, and which allows removal of the sleeve without interference with the sleeve-actuating cranks or its driving-mechanism, comprises a housing 17 on the valve 3 adapted to receive a rotatable cylindrical, conical, or conoidal member 16 apertured at 20 to receive the sleeve-actuating crank 15, which also passes through a horizontal slot 21 in the housing 17, the lower side of the slot being open at 22. The member 16 is held in position by a nut 24, by removal of which the sleeve may be detached without disturbing the crank 15. This crank 15 is adjustably splined at 19 to a valve shaft 14 formed with a further crank 13. In the radial-cylinder engine shown, the cranks 13 engage an eccentric strap 11 surrounding an internally toothed rim 9 geared by pinions 6 to a central gear-wheel 5.
