648,915. Turning-gear; casings. CONTINENTAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Feb. 21, 1948, Nos. 5211 and 5212. Convention dates, April 7, 1941, and Dec. 8, 1941. [Classes 7(ii) and 7(v)] In an aircraft internal combustion engine with a crankshaft 12 supported by a crankcase 10, carrying a crankshaft starter gear 30, and accessory gears housed in a gear case secured to the crankcase, the accessory gears including a starter gear 33 and an intermediate compound gear 24 permanently in mesh with the starter gear and slidably and rotatably supported by an end plate of the crankcase and manually operable to move into and out of engagement with the crankshaft starter gear, there is provided means, such as the stub shaft 14, carried by the crankcase, for piloting the intermediate gear 24 as it is moved into and out of engagement with the starter gear 30, the gear 24 forming a unit assembly with the starter. The mechanism is the same as that described in Specification 568,381.
