[Class 35] [Also in Groups XXVI, XXVII and XXXIV] In an accessory gear mechanism for aircraft engines, a gear 41 on the cam-shaft 13 is driven from a starting gear 30 on the crank-shaft 12 and carries an internal ring gear 44 driving the gear 45.of a generator 46, the driving gear 50 of an oil pump 51 being axially aligned with the gear 41 and directly driven thereby. As shown, the shaft 48 of the pump gear 50 is squared at 47 to engage an opening in the gear 41, and the generator 46 is connected to the gear 45 by a flexible coupling 45a. An accessory such as a tachometer 54 is driven through a shaft extension 53 from the driven gear 52 of the pump 51. The compound gear 30 is driven from the gear 33 of an engine starter 18 through a compound gear 32, 34 moved axially by a lever 25 which also actuates the starter switch 27, as described in Specification 568,381, [Group XXVII]. The gearing is enclosed in a housing 15 preferably connected to an oil sump. The cam-shaft gear 41 also drives a pair of magnetos.
