Abstract

190,401. Almen, J. O. March 17, 1922. Valves.-In an engine with cylinders parallel to crank shaft and swash plate driving-gear, and in which a pair of rotary valves are mounted eccentrically on the crank shaft, the eccentric 20 on which the valves 14 are mounted are so arranged that the moments due to the centrifugal forces caused by the rotation of the valves counteract the moments due to the inertia of the reciprocating parts. The valves are formed with a series of inlet ports 30 and a corresponding series of exhaust ports, and are fitted with sparking- plugs 35. Valve gear.-In the seven-cylinder engine described, the valves are driven at one-sixth speed in the opposite direction to the crank shaft by means of gearing 17, 21.
