Abstract
552,507. Driving gear. SADLER, R. D. Nov. 4, 1941, No. 14192. [Class 7 (ii)] In an engine having four or a multiple of four pistons 8 connected to one or more equalarmed beams 4, each provided with a shorter arm 6 extending at right angles to the beam and connected by a link 10 to a crankshaft 12 parallel to the axis of the beam, a shaft 15 parallel to both is driven from the crankshaft through toothed gears 13, 14 and may carry a flywheel and an aeroplane propeller. As shown, the engine comprises pairs of opposed vertical cylinders 9 and the driven shaft 15 is arranged between the cylinders and above the axis of the beams 4. The valve gear and ignition means are driven from the shaft 15.
