Abstract

Motor power plant.-Motor power plant, particularly applicable to high-speed naval motor launches, comprises a silent motor 20 and two main engine units 1, 2 associated each with a propeller shaft 22, and means whereby the silent motor or either or both engines may be used to drive either or both propeller shafts. The silent motor 20 may also be used to start the main engines, and if it is an electric motor, it may be arranged to work as a dynamo for charging batteries. Each main engine unit comprises two engines having crank-shafts 3, 4 provided with pinions 5, 5 meshing with a gear-wheel 6 and also with an internally toothed rim 7 forming part of a cone 9, with which, or with a second cone 8, a counter-cone 10 can be engaged at will to drive the shaft 11 in one direction or the other. Bevel gears and cross-shafts 13 connect the two shafts 1 as shown, the shafts 13 being connected by a bevel group 14, 14', 15, 15<1>. Another bevel group 16, 17, 18 connects the shafts 13 with a super-feed compressor 19, which is used for the main engines for abnormal speed. Dog clutches 21 couple the shafts 11 with the propeller shafts 22. For noiseless manoeuvring the silent motor 20 alone is used.
