[Class 110(iii] A gas turbine plant for road vehicles comprises a compressor a driven by a first stage turbine rotor c and a power shaft i driven by a second stage turbine rotor d through gears f. The separate shafts b, e may be coupled through gears o, quill shaft m, gears l and a free-wheel clutch k, j. The clutch permits the drive system d, e, f, i to slow down regardless of the speed of the compressor system, but if the drive system overspeeds it drives the compressor system through the clutch and the latter system then acts as a brake. The clutch may be of any type which permits the element k to overrun and prevents the element j from overrunning.
