784,694. Gas turbine plant. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd. Oct. 21, 1955 [Nov. 4, 1954], No. 31878/54. Class 110 (3). In a helicopter power unit a single compressor supplies both a gas turbine coupled to the helicopter rotor and a second turbine driving the compressor. The turbines and compressor are coaxially mounted and the rotor turbine is also coupled through a one-way clutch to the compressor which will be driven by the rotor turbine if the compressor rotational speed tends to fall below that of the rotor turbine. As shown, the compressor 11 is driven by turbine 21 through shaft 16. The compressor also supplies the rotor turbine 22, 23 on shaft 24. Shafts 16, 24 are coupled by clutch 39, 40 which engages when the speed of 16 falls below that of 24.
