Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3). [Also in Group XXXIII] A power plant has at least two gas-turbine engines, each driving a fluid impeller means through a one-way clutch, the impeller means having a central hub defining internally thereof an air intake for the engines, the clutch associated with an engine disengaging the latter from the impeller means if that engine fails, so that rotation of the impeller means is not impeded. In the Figure, two fans 45, 46 are separately driven through coaxial shafts 13, 14, gearing 47, 48 and one-way free-wheel clutches 49, 50, each by one of two gas-turbine engines 51, 52. The fans also have compressor b des 18, 19, feeding the gas-turbines. The fans may be used to supply wind tunnels, or lifting jets for vertical take-off aircraft. More than two engines, for example six, may be used, half of the engines driving each fan. The first Provisional Specification discloses also the subjectmatter of Specification 928,478 which is referred to.
