[Also in Groups XXIV and XXXI] A planet carrier 12 on a motor vehicle engine shaft 14 divides the engine output between a sun wheel 3, driving via gears 9b, 9a a supercharger 2, and an annulus 16 fast with the pump 20 of an hydraulic torque converter having a turbine 21 on the output shaft 5 and a reactor 22 allowed by a freewheel 23 to rotate forward above a predetermined speed so as to lock up the converter to act as a coupling. The supercharger 2 draws in combustion air via a filter 7. The converter may be additionally locked up by a clutch, and may be followed by an auxiliary gearbox with reverse gear and an emergency forward gear.
