Abstract

847,415. Expanding wheel and change-speed chain gearing. UHER, E. Jan. 27, 1958 [Feb. 2, 1957], No. 2668/58. Addition to 830,275. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXI] An improvement in or modification of the invention of the parent Specification consists in providing a V-belt gear for the automatic change of transmission, which gear comprises a V-belt driving-pulley 4, 6 and a V-belt driven pulley 20, 22 in which the axially-displaceable half-pulleys are loaded in the direction of their approach by springs 10, 23, respectively, the spring 23 being the stronger, a centrifugal weight arrangement 8 which counteracts the spring loading being provided on the driven pulley. As soon as the driving pulleys are set in motion at a higher speed, the pivotallymounted weights 8 are swung outwardly under the action of centrifugal force, projections 9 from the weights displace the half-pulley 22 axially against the action of the spring 23 and away from the other half-pulley 20 so that the V-belt is caused to run on a smaller radius by the action of the spring 10 between the driven pulley halves and correspondingly on a larger radius between the driving pulley halves, the reduction ratio thus being reduced in proportion to the speed.
