Abstract

866,550. Gearing for stopping and starting machinery. WOLSELEY ENGINEERING Ltd. (V-Plex Clutch Corporation). July 22, 1959 [July 22, 1958], No. 23446/58. Class 80 (2). A pulley for a V-belt drive comprises a fixed disc 4 and an axially movable disc 5, the latter being moved inwardly at a predetermined speed to engage the belt 6 by centrifugal masses 18 housed in the space between a drum 14 on the driving spindle 7 and the outer inclined face 16 of disc 5. The masses 18 are held in position by a garter spring 21 and the discs 4, 5 are normally held apart, so that the drive is disconnected, by a coil spring 12.
