Abstract

866,879. Friction clutches. CYCLES PEUGEOT. Sept. 29, 1959 [Jan. 21, 1959], No. 33064/59. Class 80 (2). A transmission for an engine - assisted pedal cycle comprises a belt-driven pulley 1 on the engine shaft A, together with a centrifugal engine - starting clutch 14 and a powder driving clutch 17 mounted side-by-side adjacent the pulley. During normal pedal drive, pulley 1 rotates freely on shaft A, the engine being started by increasing the speed of rotation, thereby causing segments 14 pivoted to the pulley to move outwards against springs 15 into contact with a drum 6 secured to the casing 4 of the powder clutch, by which shaft A is driven. When the engine is running drive is transmitted from shaft A, through powder clutch 17 to a sleeve 18 driving pulley 1 through projections 21. The powder clutch is provided with sealing-rings 20.
