Abstract
860,041. Gearing for stopping machinery; belt gearing. SANDERS, G. W., and SANDERS, A. V. May 8, 1959 [May 19, 1958], No. 16013/58. Classes 80 (1) and 80 (2). A pulley for a V-belt drive which is adapted to be stopped on overload occurring comprises two halves 3, 4 which are held together to engage the belt by spring-loaded balls 8 in radial bores 7 in one half 4 engaging in holes 10 in a hub 1 of the other half 3. On excessive tension of the belt due to overload the halves 3, 4 separate, the balls 8 being forced out of the holes 10 into further axially disposed holes 12, to disengage the belt. A spring 6 is provided to assist this separation. The pulley half 4 must be pushed back against the spring 6 for the balls 8 to re-engage the holes 10 to restore the drive.
