Abstract

The pulley consists of two formed metal disc halves (2, 3) both mounted solidly on a shaft (1), and forming between them at their outer peripheries a diverging angle to receive the drive belt (10). An elastic annular disc (8) lies between these two pulley halves and rotates freely round the pulley shaft on a ball bearing (7). In its normal position the disc stands proud of the pulley vee and, when the belt revolves with no tension, carries the belt. When tension is applied to the belt, the disc deforms radially inwards, and the drive is transmitted to the pulley shaft.
