Abstract

One shaft has an annular ring (3) with various webs (36) extending radially outwards, and a larger diameter ring (3c) with a space between webs and the outer ring. The other shaft has an end plate on which are mounted radial plates (4a) that locate midway between the webs (3b) leaving gaps in between. The gaps are fitted with individual air cushions (5) connected by values to a pneumatic ring (7) between the webs and the outer ring. These cushions transmit rotary movement and damp out shocks. By changing the air pressure, the elastic properties of the device can be modified.
