Abstract

[Also in Division F2] The drive for a conveyer roller 10 is transmitted by means of a cylinder 34 provided with three spring-urged balls 40 which seat in spherical recesses 32 formed in a disc 26 located in a member 14 secured to the roller. The construction allows relative rotation between a drive cylinder 34 and the roller 10 if the latter is stopped or driven at a greater speed than that of the cylinder 34. The roller and cylinder are rotatable on a stationary shaft 24, a pulley 50 being engaged by belts 52, 54 one of which is connected to the pulley of a preceding roller and the other to the next roller. If a different torque is to be transmitted, the disc 26 may be replaced by a disc with different recesses 32. In a modification, Fig. 4, a disc 26<SP>11</SP> has radial depressions 32<SP>11</SP> and projections 33<SP>11</SP> in place of the recesses 32. The discs 26, 26<SP>11</SP> may be integral with the roller member 14 and the positions of the recesses may be reversed in relation to the spring-ball units. In further modifications, Figs. 2, 6 (not shown), the spring- ball units act radially on corresponding recesses. In place of the disc, springs and balls as above, a resilient disc, corresponding to the disc 26 may have projections which engage in the bores originally occupied by the springs.
