Abstract
984,687. Expanding-wheel gear. EATON MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 20, 1962 [Jan. 5, 19621, No. 48215/62. Headings F2D and F2Q. To take up slack in a belt 20, a pulley comprising two relatively-rotatable and axially separable sheaves 12, 14 has interengaging threaded sleeves 34, 38 fast with the two sheaves, a bush 24 fast with a shaft 56 and with the sheave 12 forming a hub upon which is journalled a bush 26 press-fitted into the sheave 14. The threaded sleeves 34, 36 are moulded from nylon. When slack developes in the belt 20, slipping takes place, thus turning the two sheaves 12, 14 relatively to each other and increase the effective pulley diameter, restoring the belt tension. In one modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the bush 26 and the threaded sleeve 34 are moulded in one piece from nylon. In another modification. Figs. 3, 4 (also not shown), each sheave 12, 14 and its associated threaded sleeve 38, 34 is moulded in one piece from nylon.
