Abstract

924,191. Idler roller assemblies for belt conveyers. FISHER & LUDLOW Ltd. Sept. 21, 1959 [Sept. 20, 1958], No. 30137/58. Class 78 (1). In an idler roller assembly comprising a plurality of rollers mounted for free rotation on a bowed metal shaft 13 which is resiliently supported at each end as described in Specification 806,605, the hub 24 of each roller is provided with abutments 26 which engage with corresponding abutments of the adjacent rollers so as to prevent relative rotation between axially adjacent rollers. Each hub may be formed in nylon with projections 25 around which non- metallic material constituting the roller element 23 is moulded, the bore of the hub is tapered, as shown, so that only the central portion of the hub engages the shaft 13. In a modification, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), the abutments of axially adjacent rollers are non-relatively rotatably connected through an intermediate connecting sleeve, the opposite ends of which are formed with abutments which engage with the abutments of the adjacent rollers. A dust-excluding flexible sleeve may be provided for enclosing the engaging abutments at each end of the connecting sleeve. The shaft 13 may be constructed as a flexible cable or as a helical spring.
