Abstract

1,168,213. Roller conveyers. C. E. KAWCHITCH. 1 April, 1968, No. 15573/68. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F2] A shaft 14 of a conveyer roller 11 comprises a metal sleeve 15 and a plastics, natural rubber, or other non-metallic core 16 attached to the sleeve at one end only, by diametrically opposite, as shown, projections 21 on the core entering holes 19 in the sleeve. Again, Fig. 4 (not shown), the core and sleeve may be connected by crimping at one or more points (41), (42). As shown, the core 16 has a flange 27 formed with three long pins 31 and six short pins 32 passing through holes in the hub of a worm-wheel 28 formed from two moulded plastics halves, and the opposite end of the shaft is force-fitted in an end cap 13 of a conveyer roller 11. The shaft is supported in a ball-and-socket bearing 23, a bolt 17 screwing into end cap 13 to maintain packing washers 39, 40 tightly between the flange 27, the bearing and the end cap. A number of rollers and associated worm-wheels may be driven by a single shaft 10 carrying a number of worms 38.
