Abstract

1,039,431. Securing hubs on shafts. O. E. PETER. Jan. 12, 1965 [Jan. 13, 1964], No. 1426 /65. Heading F2U. [Also in Division E2] A hub 7 is secured on a shaft 6 by two internally coned rings 2, 2a, each formed of a number of segments which facilitate expansion of the rings when the latter are drawn up conical faces of a sleeve 1 by tightening screws 3. Oversize low friction plastic cross-pieces 4 (Fig. 2, not shown) are interposed between the segments of the rings 2, 2a and engage slats in the sleeve 1. During assembly the crosspieces 4 centre the hub 7 on the shaft 6 prior to tightening the screws 3. Prior to assembly the rings 2, 2a and cross-pieces 4 are held together by a plastic or rubber ring 5. The segments may be made of steel, cast iron, lightweight metal or plastics material.
