Abstract
871,448. Securing pulleys on shafts. PAPAGEORGES, D. Jan. 1, 1960 [March 7, 1959], No. 7/60. Class 80 (2). A pulley 1 is secured upon a shaft 19 by tightening bolts 9 screwed at one end 11 into a radially slotted flange 5 and passing at their headed ends through another similar flange, the bolts also passing through holes in the pulley, the flanges having substantially cylindrical sleeve-like extensions 6 engaging an inner cylindrical surface 3 forming the hub of the pulley and coating with two oppositelydirected conical friction surfaces on a bush 12 secured for rotation with the shaft by an axial key 14, tightening the bolts wedging the sleevelike extensions 6 of the flanges 5 between the bush and the hub of the pulley. A circlip 17 lies in a groove in the bush 12 to provide a stop for two rings 20 of rubber or the like which are compressed as the bolts 9 are tightened. To remove the pulley 1 from the shaft, the bolts 9 are unscrewed, and the rings 20 of rubber &c. then force the two sleeve-like extensions 6 and the flanges 5 off the conical surfaces of the bush 12. The external surface of the pulley 1 may be flat in cross-section, as shown at 2, or may alternatively be grooved or provided with a toothlike configuration.
