Abstract

996,382. Shaft couplings. WORTHINGTONSIMPSON Ltd. Aug. 10, 1961 [Sept. 30, 1960], No. 33689/60. Heading F2V. A vertical or horizontal marine pump coupling comprises shafts 4, 1, carrying flanges 14, 15, of which the peripheries are surrounded and aligned by a light interference fit sleeve 9, and drivingly connected thereto by an axial key 11 retained by a screw 16, the sleeve 9 having a flange 10 which together with the flanges 14, 15 are axially clamped by clearance bolts 12. The flange 15 may be forged, or screwed and dowelled on the pump shaft 1, the flange 14 being keyed on a taper 5 of the driving shaft 4 and retained by a nut 7 locked by a grub screw 8. Threaded extractor holes 13 are provided in the sleeve flange 10 to assist in removal of the sleeve 9 from the flanges 14, 15.
