Abstract

798,142. Shaft coupling. PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. Feb. 5, 1957 [Feb. 27, 1956], No. 5991/56. Class 80 (2). A wheel c is axially and radially located on a shaft f by two equiangular frusto-conical faces a, g in the bore of the wheel mating with corresponding faces on the shaft f and a close fitting slidably mounted collar b engaged by a nut d, the apex of the generating cones intersecting at a point on the axis of the shaft and in the vertical centre line of the wheel. Any axial differential expansion between the members is compensated by the radial differential expansion and the faces will always lie on the surfaces of the generating cones. Torque is transmitted by the keys e and a spring washer may be interposed between the nut d and the collar b.
