Abstract

750,826. Securing pins &c. in bores. RINGFEDER GES. Jan. 4 1954 [Jan. 2, 1953], No. 165/54, Addition to 693.530. Class 80(2) The means for securing a member, such as a shaft 1, in a bore, described in the parent Specification, comprising fitting a ring spring consiting of a number of closed inner and outer rings 2, 5 around the shaft 1 and compressing the ring spring axially, is modified by forming the rings with co-operating outer and inner faces and arranging them so that the tapered end face of one ring engages the widened end face of the adjacent ring, and by arranging for either the inner rings to be axially displaceable with respect to non- displaceable outer rings or for the outer rings to be axially displaceable with respect to non-displaceable inner rings. As shown, the shaft 1 is connected to a gear 8 by fitting the inner rings 2 non-displaceably between a washer 3 and split ring 4, and moving the outer rings 5 axially by tightening a nut 7. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), a shaft is secured to a hub by means of axially fixed outer rings and axially movable inner ring. As a further modification, the ring spring can be divided into two parts, having their conical tapers oppositely directed. Each part is then tightened by a separate nut. Further, two pairs of inner and outer rings can be operatively connected by a spaced sleeve between them. The ring spring &c. can be hermetically sealed after the nut &c. has been tightened, to prevent corrosion.
